I love open houses. They are a great way to meet people around the community. Do they always lead to new leads and buyers? No. But, the work that leads up to them will lead to new people in my database and the allure of future biz. I have agents around here that say they are worthless, and if you are only doing them to "placate" someone, they are. If you are doing them as an event and part of your marketing efforts -- they can get you new biz -- even if zero people show up.
I'll second Jed's comment. Lots of interesting "toys" out there but most of them are simply putting a new dress on the same old date. Which of the true innovators will be the one that makes it? That's where the fun of this comes in.
I think the key is how much time and quality do you have to offer? I am blogging on AgentGenius, YPN, and my own blog. However, I've hit a wall on all of them. My personal blog is suffering -- which directly impacts my business. Though I think Joseph's comment is the most fitting. When it disrupts other aspects of your life ... then it is too much.
